Away in the mist

It's been raining on-and-off all day, and a heavy mantel of fog has been encasing our neck of the woods. It is kind of cliche, but I love this kind of weather.. Makes it easier for me to do writing.
Did I mention I could see my breath when I went outside to take these pictures?

One of my favorite sights to see on days like these are spider webs, sprinkled with raindrops, like pearls strung on string.

Is it just me, or is hearing a plane/helicopter flying, but not being able to see it, quite eerie?

I know it looks like I edited the above and below photo, but it was an effect (which even I will admit looks very amateur and cheesy) on my camera.

And here's a dog. Our sweet dog.

I do kind of miss the sun, but this is my favorite kind of weather. =)

An old typewriter and a book.

bestphotos1

I'm writing a book right now about a girl named Rayvn whose parents die, and then she runs into the forest and meets this girl who shows her a secret world. It goes much deeper than that, of course, but it's been going pretty well so far, and I'm pretty excited about it. ;)

When I was seven, Mom had an old typewriter that I used all the time. It actually worked back then, and I loved to type on it. I'm kinda sad it doesn't work now, but it still is a great photography subject!

I love typewriters, don't you?

So tell me-what are your thoughts on my book? Do you like the idea? Let me know! :)

Journey to the woods.

all photos sooc (straight out of camera, unedited)

Yesterday I went to the woods and made a very interesting discovery. You'll see that at the end.
But for now, I'll show you some pictures I took. The lighting before sunset is the best time to take pictures.

No, the leaf was not red. It was the way the sun was shining through it.

Ever seen a rock with a strip of metal wrapped around it?

Haha! I gotcha, didn't I? It was actually a piece of cardboard or something with something like metal wrapped around it. I didn't even find that out until I actually took the first photo, and then after discovering that it wasn't real, I thought it would be good to put in a blog post.

And here is my interesting discovery. I've been missing Molly's glasses for months and months now, and thought that they were just in my closet somewhere. But on my walk yesterday, something shiny wrapped around a stick caught my eye..

yes, in the photo below, that was exactly how I found them. I did not even touch them before taking the picture.

I'm just glad I didn't have to order new ones!

Spending my time

Lately, I've been spending my time...

Letting the rabbit hop around on top of my desk. Not the best idea.. Oh well.

Cleaning. (The multiple messes that the rabbit makes.)

Listening to this absolutely amazing song by Britt Nicole. It's new, just released. Listen to it. I will buy it on January 31.

Writing in my journal. I literally write everything in there. It's made of (I think) real leather and it's so pretty. I just love it.

Playing with my dolls and styling their hair.

Blog-hopping.

Wondering why I haven't posted for so long.

And why I made this pointless post.

Anyway, what have you been up to lately? What's your favorite way to spend your time?

I love art.

I love art. Art made with pencils and paintbrushes, or with fingers splattered with paint, or even on the computer. Computer art (above) is very unique as well. And so is street art.

Lots of my art inspiration comes from Pinterest, or even some people's blog designs. I spend lots of time on this art board, and on this blog (which is also a great place to find do-it-yourself projects!) to find inspiration for art.

---

So, do you like art? What's your favorite kind?

As my friend says: ART RULES. Hehe. ;)

Authenticity

{Inspired by Lizzy's post.}

Some people seem to live just for trends. Here are some examples to get us started (I could give you a thousand, I'm sure).

Chevron is in? I must use it. Mustard yellow's coming into fashion. Gotta be the first to wear it. I don't like this font, but I think other people do so I'll use it. Better hurry up and download it quick. Other people show what they wear, and they're getting positive feedback, so what would it hurt if I tried it out? I hate this top, but I'll wear it just this once for my outfit post. After all, what would happen if I wore clothes I liked in front of the camera? People are trying to type pretty and they sound cliche, so it wouldn't hurt if I did. They do it. Why not try it out.

I used to be a bit like those people-those people who followed the trends-and I'm not horribly proud of it. There were trends I cared for, and I tried them out and liked them (personally I see nothing wrong with following a few trends as long as you really-and-truly love them).

But there were a few other trends I tested out and didn't like, but stuck to still. Because, well, everyone else did them.

P1000366

As Lizzy pointed out, I just realized that so many popular bloggers say that they want to be real, when really all they mean is that they're going to follow the trends. And in some cases, set trends. Have you ever noticed that there is always a blogger who's a trendsetter, setting the fashions for other bloggers? For other bloggers less popular who want to fit in and attract more people to their blogs. And then those bloggers hurry to copy other that blogger, making their blog a copycat.

Blogging is not about having a gajillion-billion followers and one hundred comments on every last post. It's about being you. It may seem like someone else has a blog, even a life that seems one hundred percent perfect. With thousands of followers and comments and pageviews and beautiful, picture-perfect photos and posts.

P1000363

So from now on, I'm going to be completely me. I'm not going to try to follow any trends, I'm just going to be me. And I will start by saying that my name is Hannah, this is my blog, and that I am proud of myself and my blog (I think you know what I mean, I'm not proud to the point of being conceited). I'm proud of this blog even though I have less than one hundred followers and don't get lots of comments, because that is who I am. I am going to be me; and while I'm not perfect, I'll try to be as authentic as possible.

If you're with me here, tell me! I'd like to know. :)

tuesday ramblings.

001. old books.

002. photography. I just love shooting with my new camera-I'm so blessed. Thank you, Lord, for my Phoebe! (Yes, I named my camera Phoebe. I was going to name her Miss Renee, but my mom suggested Phoebe. Miss Renee sounded .. not right. So, Phoebe it is. Plus, if I ever sell my photos I will name my business Phoebe Photo.)

Here are quite a few pictures taken by Phoebe.

003. strange habits. I've never considered myself a weirdo compared to other girls, but I guess everybody is kind of strange in their own way.

For example, sometimes I turn on some music and dance in my room (well, hasn't everyone done that at some point?). And if the room is messy I can't dance, so I clean it first. But my room almost always stays clean. I hate robots, clowns, and robot clowns (such horrid things do exist, people. in video games. shudder). I make music sometimes by stepping on the ground, one step per syllable. It bugs me when there's no eraser on the pencil I'm writing with. I get shutter happy when my brother is riding his bike.

What are some of your quirks? If they're not too embarrassing to share, that is. ;)

004. wall art. I just hung some art on my wall, just a simple painting of a vase with flowers. Believe it or not, it's an old circular box lid, which I converted to a circular painting. I promise it's not at all tacky. ;)

I just love changing up the look of my room often. It's so refreshing, and it makes it seem a little like a different place. I'd highly recommend moving even just one piece of furniture in your room to a different place, or hanging something up on the wall or something. It could make a difference if you're sick of living in the same old place. :)

Well, I have other things to get done now, so..goodbye!

01 January, 2012

when I was little..

..we got a humungous Hershey's kiss and cut it into three pieces (my dad didn't want any, so just Mom, Eric and I shared it). I tried to carve my piece into a little chocolate statue or something (I think I tried to make a person's head...?).
---

..I made at least fifty stories on our computer and all of them were horrible, but I had "serious talks" with my mom about publishing them.

---

..I had this little stuffed animal that could sing if you pressed a button on it, and from when I was a baby to about seven years old I would always run away from it, hide, and sometimes cry because I was afraid that it wouldn't turn off. And it was kind of a creepy little toy, too.

---

..I called butterflies "butties."

---

..I ate cole slaw as a baby. Yes, a baby. My great-grandma got worried about me choking on it, but don't worry, it was safe. :)

---

..I loved to read, and learned how very young. When I was about three years old, I would heave a tall stack of books with my to a chair, climb on the chair, bring my books up with me, and carefully page through each and every book for a long time. When I was done, I picked up another book. I know I must have done this for hours. (We have this super cute picture of me reading, too.)

---

..I loved those books about that girl named Madeleine who lived in Paris. My mom checked all of them out for me at the library one time, and when she took them back I walked up to her and said, "Mom, do you have any Madeleine books?" When she said no, I said "oooh" in a very sad voice, and walked away sadly. Then she bought them for me and I think we still have them all.

---

..I had this ballet dress with a lacey top and a long, flowing skirt. When I was dancing gracefully around the living room, my skirt flowing and flying behind me, our cat would be chasing my skirt all around, batting at it, jumping.. Everyone said it was funny.

---

..I would sit in the shopping cart reading a book from the store as Mom did her shopping. When we were done we just put the book down, I got out of the cart and we left!

---

..I wrote in a journal frequently. I have actually done a few posts filled with old journal entries which you can look at here and here.

---

..I loved my American Girl dolls and I still do. :)

---

..I wanted to play the bagpipes, and still do. Weird? Yeah, but I don't care..

---

..I liked to knit, and went to a knitting club at the library filled with old ladies. I still knit but I don't knit with old ladies anymore.
------

What were some of the things you did when you were younger?

Happy January 1!

-love,
Hannah
